What's up with all this buying gold?
---
June 29, 2009
That is an excellent question. The media seems to be bombarding us with the fact that gold is at an all time high. This is a perfect time for jewelers and others involved in the jewelry business to purchase gold from the public for a profit. Here at Bauble Patch Jewelers we have made a conscious decision to not partake in the "gold buying" craze. It does not sit well with us, from an ethical standpoint, to give you $10.00 for something that we would charge you $100.00 for. We would rather you keep that value for yourself. As you can see from our website, we specialize in recycling and redesigning gold items that you are no longer wearing. If you are in a position in your life where you are left with no other option but to sell all of your assests, then by all means do what you have to do. Otherwise, make your unworn items into something gorgeous that you will wear and cherish for years to come!
How do I keep my rings sparkling the way they do when I leave your store?
---
March 17, 2009
The process that we use to clean our clients rings is slightly different than at home care. We use a professional grade ultrasonic cleaner, and then each piece is steamed off. Maintaining and caring for your jewelry is very important. To ensure that your beloved pieces will continue to bring you joy, we recommend that you bring your jewelry in every 3-6 months. That way we can make sure that all of your gemstones are secure and watch the wear of your prongs. If you are cleaning your jewelry at home we recommend that you use jewelry cleaner, that can be purchased in our store. Many other at-home products have been suggested such as; toothpaste, dish soap, diluted ammonia and others. These products will not hurt your jewelry, but they will not do a proper job either.
Why should I have my ring sized using a laser?
---
February 26, 2009
Not every store has a laser machine. This hi-tech machine is used by jewelers instead of using a torch. A laser machine joins two metals together not using heat, rather a focused light beam that melts a very small area of metal. The benefit is there is very little heat generated at the melt point, allowing the jeweler to weld within 1/2 to 1mm of heat sensitive areas. Laser welding is the only way to preserve an antique piece of jewelry and its value.
Why does my white gold ring look yellowish?
---
February 25, 2009
That is a very good question. Many people do not know that their white gold ring originally has a rhodium plating on it. Rhodium is a form of platinum and gives white gold that bright white look. Over time that platinum plating does wear off and needs to be reapplied. This is a very common occurence and we can take care of that for you in our store today!
Can you mount Petoskey Stones?
---
March 30, 2009
Thank-You for your question regarding the Petoskey Stones. We would definetly be able to properly mount the stones for you. Since petoskey stones are non-calibrated stones this will require a custom-made mounting. We will need to see the stones in person to accomodate you in this matter. You can either bring them in person or send them to us. We love unique projects and would love the opportunity to work with you!
